I love (LOVE) when people ask me what “diet” I’m doing. Is it this or that or the weekly world news grapefruit and kiwi diet? LOL. I always reply with something like this, “I don’t do any diet.” I usually get a few odd looks and then inevitably they ask “Well, aren’t you losing weight?”
It seems that we have so confused the word diet in our coloquial lingo that we have redefined the word to mean something that causes you to lose weight. At this point I typically get out my soapbox, climb on top, and begin to explain to people that whatever we eat is a diet. Diet = food we intake not some magical pill that makes it all better and makes our butts shrink or our bellies slim.
GOOD FOOD IN = GOOD DIET
CRAP FOOD IN = BAD DIET

I’ve started using this phrase a lot lately and it’s garnered some attention. Enough that I thought I’d explain a bit here (even though it seems pretty self explanatory to me).
First let me define what I mean by “Life.” Life (not to be mistaken with “living” or “to be alive”) is your daily journey through which you accomplish goals, achieve successes, and live the activities that bring happiness and joy both yourself and others. In order to have “life” in this sense you must be able to live it with abandon. In order to live with abandon you must be powered appropriately. Health is what gives you the power to live your life with true abandon and do the activities you want and bring piles of joy to yourself and others.
I can think of a number of things I wanted to do over the years that I wasn’t able to do bc of my weight. I wasn’t able to take the mule ride into Bryce Canyon….there was the zip line incident of 2002. Those of you who know me can attest to the fact that I love the outdoors and all that comes with it (including adventure and awesome things like mule rides and zip lines). I found out that my health was not allowing me to have the life I wanted to have…can you sense how much that sucked out loud?!
Last summer I made a decision…a hard decision…to begin tweaking my life in ways that would bring my health in line with how I wanted to live my life. If you’ve been paying attention (even a little) you probably know that I am 62lbs lighter and rolling with a LIFE now vs. just living as I did just last year.
What did I do?!
1) I decided. I decided to make a change.
2) I committed. I committed to the changes that I needed to live my life.
3) I succeeded. Those of you who have been around know I have succeeded and continue to succeed every day.
THE CHALLENGE
Make a change today. Decide to do a workout program. Decide to eat more veggies and lean proteins. Decide to add nutrition (I RECOMMEND SHAKEOLOGY!). Make these decision and COMMIT to achieving them and you have no other option but success.
HEALTH IS LIFE
